Biodegradable Bandage
CC
Rebecca Riley
We are developing a biodegradable bandage. Rather than the petroleum-derived and landfill-bound adhesives used in the common bandage, we look to the geometric adhesives of the natural world. Our design adheres to the skin through a geometric microstructure inspired by the soft underbelly of the Northern Clingfish (Gobiesox maeandricus). As this project unfolds, we are experimenting with the wound-healing and anti-bacterial properties of various biomaterials for a final product that promotes faster epithelialization and staves off infection in addition to being eco-friendly.
